Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV Unveiled In India

Toyota India has taken the covers off the new SUV which has been branded as 'Urban Cruiser Hyryder'. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder is Toyota's first midsize SUV for India and it has been developed jointly with Maruti Suzuki. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder is Toyota's first attempt at making a hybrid electric vehicle for the mass market in India.Toyota's newest SUV gets a Glanza-inspired grille with a chrome insert flanked by dual LED DRLs, chunky air dam, contrast-coloured skid plate, blacked-out roof and ORVMs, and large dual-tone 17-inch alloy wheels. At the back, it gets a pair of sleek LED tail lamps. Toyota is offering the Urban Cruiser Hyryder in seven monotone and four dual-tone colour schemes with a black roof.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder features Toyota's 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 92hp and 122Nm of torque. The engine is paired to an electric motor to make a combined 114 bhp. The hybrid system on the Toyota Hyryder is paired with a 177.6 V Lithium-ion battery. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder boasts an electric-only range of up to 25km. This engine comes with an eCVT and can be driven in EV mode as well. Toyota claims that the Urban Cruiser Hyryder will deliver the best-in-class mileage.

Toyota is also offering the Urban Cruiser Hyryder with Maruti Suzuki's 1.5-litre mild-hybrid power plant that made its debut in the new Brezza. The engine makes 103 hp and 137 Nm of torque and it will be paired to either a 5-speed manual or an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. It will also get the option of an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, making it the first in its segment.

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder will get features like a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, fully-digital instrument cluster, connected car tech, a free-standing 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, 17-inch alloy wheels, and rear AC vents, etc.

On the safety front, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder gets 6 airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, ESP, hill-hold assist, 3-point seatbelts for all rear passengers and hill descent control, among others.

The Hyryder SUV will rival the likes of Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun and Mahindra Scorpio-N in the Indian market.
